On November 13 and 16, Ritmüller Ltd., successfully organized the workshop “Certified Piano Tuning & Repair” at the Athens Cultural & Arts Center. At the workshop, Mr. Leng Tshua, a global strategist and senior brand building consultant with over 25 years of experience in sales and marketing, customer development, manufacturing and supply chain management both wholesale and retail in the piano industry, took attendees on an inspiring journey through the history of the Ritmüller brand in particular and the German piano industry in general.

Mr. Leng emphasized that the appeal of German pianos lies not only in the exquisite sound quality but also in the perfect combination of handcrafting techniques and technological innovation. In particular, with Ritmüller, timeless inventions have contributed to shaping the standards for the world piano industry. He cited Ritmüller’s role in becoming the first choice of great composers such as Johannes Brahms – who used pianos of this brand to compose classic works.

One of the highlights of Mr. Leng’s sharing was the interesting question: “How can a piano be used as well as the original for 20 years?” And the answer is that regular and proper maintenance is the key to maintaining the sound and longevity of the piano. He not only analyzes important technical factors such as string tuning and hammer testing, but also emphasizes the role of the storage environment in the stability of wooden and metal parts.

Sharing In-Depth Techniques, Exchange & Q&A with Two Leading Piano Experts

Continuing the workshop program, two leading experts from Pearl River Piano Group, Mr. Liu Dong Lin, an expert with over 20 years of experience in improving piano quality standards and training professional technicians, and Mr. Kenneth Chen, a renowned expert with over 27 years of experience in repairing, restoring and refinishing pianos, will introduce in detail the internal structure of an upright piano. The experts will directly explain how these parts affect the sound and quality of the piano. The two experts also perform basic operations in piano maintenance and care such as:

Tuning the strings: Instructions on how to adjust the tension of the strings to ensure accurate sound, while optimizing the quality of the piano’s resonance.
Voicing (Tone adjustment): Practice the technique of adjusting the tone of the hammer to achieve a smooth, balanced sound, while refreshing the sound quality of the piano.
Checking and maintaining the hammer: Clarify the process of checking for wear, corrosion of the hammer and hammer regeneration techniques to maintain long-term sound quality.
